Sweet Potato Chili Fries with Roasted Garlic

October 4, 2011 By kelly / inspired edibles 53 Comments

Blame it on my Irish heritage, but I rather enjoy potatoes.  In almost every form.
I once had a Poutine Italienne (that’s spaghetti sauce over gravy over curd cheese over french fries) before going out for dinner.  My purported excuse?  I was pregnant.  Yikes.
Happily, we are all capable of change.
In an effort to put a calming mechanism on this runaway train wreck, I began making it a habit of keeping it to home fries on an occasional basis and, of the sweet potato variety.

These are my favourite…

Sweet Potato Chili Fries with Roasted Garlic
  • 3 sweet potatoes, washed and chopped into chunky pieces (skin on)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 garlic bulb, skin removed on cloves and chopped into chunky pieces
  • 1+ 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper or hot chili flakes (if desired)
  • sea salt

———————-
Preheat oven to 425 F.

Place all ingredients together in a bowl and mix thoroughly.

Spread potatoes and garlic onto a baking sheet (making sure they are not touching) and bake for approximately 20-25 minutes, being sure to flip at least once.

Serves 4-6

I’ll be making this soon. I am not Irish but I am a big potato fan (sweet potatoes are even better). I did’t put oil and mix with potato before. I got it wrong. I’m going to toss everything with oil next time, so it’ll be nice and crunchy everywhere. Thanks for the idea!

I love making sweet potato fries too and like you, they are my at home treat! Adding in the garlic is a fantastic idea! I like the newspaper to hold the fries!!

Ba ha ha! I have truly never heard of Poutine Italianne…there is a time for everything I suppose ;-)

These fries look out of this WORLD. You have combined two of my most favourite foodie things….sweet potatoes, and roasted garlic. Divine!

I just made sweet potato oven fries this past weekend, but messed up big time… I used a recipe with an interesting twist, coating the potato wedges in egg whites. It’s supposed to help making them crisp up – but, I messed up. Will do them again, might use your spice mixture…. will let you know ;-)
